IT Lab is glad to announce our membership of the Cyber Exchange; a not-for-profit initiative connecting the cyber-security industry, government and academia.
We’re also pleased to announce that Michael Bateman – our Director of Cyber and Managed Services and IT Lab CISO – was voted by industry peers to join techUK’s Cyber Security Management Committee.
The committee plays a vital role collaborating with Government on national security and positioning the UK as a world authority in the war against cyber-crime.
The premise of the Cyber Exchange is simple: that the security industry, academics and government can improve by sharing intelligence and learning from one another.
It also provides a focal point for businesses looking to buy security services. An online directory lists approved providers, which is filterable according to need.
The Cyber Exchange is part of the Cyber Growth Partnership (CGP) which advances the UK’s security sector through skills, research and innovation and by promoting to overseas markets.
The CGP is a task force co-chaired by Margot James MP, Minister for the Digital Economy and Gavin Patterson, CEO of BT. The task force supported the implementation of the National Cyber Security Strategy 2016-2021 (also known variously as the National Cyber Security Programme or Plan).
techUK is the country’s industry body for the technology sector and one of the organisations that founded the Cyber Exchange.
With over 900-member companies employing around 700,000 people, its mission for the UK is threefold: making the UK good for tech, tech good for the UK, and tech good for people.
Most of its members are small and medium-sized businesses who enjoy access to resources including events, insights and training.
The committee of 14 is elected every two years by techUK’s members. By engaging with government and senior industry stakeholders, it works across all sectors to lead the debate on vital cyber issues.
New committee member Michael Bateman plays a pivotal role in IT Lab’s security services. He led the acquisition and integration of Perspective Risk and the subsequent creation of IT Lab’s Security Operations Centre (SOC) Services.
The committee’s previous achievements include guiding the National Cyber Security Strategy and helping establish the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC). It engaged with sector bodies including the British Retail Consortium (BRC) and EnergyUK to provide cyber guidance to their members.
The committee also worked with the EU and governments from other countries to advance global collaboration in the cyber marketplace.
The current committee’s aims include developing a professional body for the cybersecurity industry, exploring export opportunities, and debating the UK’s approach to the E-Privacy Directive.
